The Construction of a Koi Pond in the Cayman Islands -
Jan - Aug 2002

PAGE 2 of 7

As I have already mentioned previously - it took quite a few emails back and forth to convince our customer that the pond had to be deeper, much deeper, than it was in the previous sets of photographs .. and the set below shows how that was achieved .. no doubt using local labour and buckets of swet .... and as you can see the supporting steel work for the wall construction has at this stage already been put in place...

The next job of course was to start constructing the walls .. and in this case the walls were constructed using 8" hollow concrete blocks - each block being carefully lowered over the steel supports - quite a task in itself, especially for short folk like myself....

Once the walls had been brought up to the height required prior to the final course shuttering was used to form a template for a solid concrete collar to give a good finish to the top edge .. not always necessary or required .. but certainly goes towards providing a good finish...

At last the pond is beginning to look like a pond ..  and even the area for the filtration system and other equipment is beginning to look part of the whole construction ... let's continue onto the next page...
